Liebherr-Werk Biberach's largest order to date - 58 units of type 280, 200 and 154 saddle jib tower

Liebherr-Werk Biberach's largest order to date - 58 units of type 280, 200 and 154 saddle jib tower cranes in the EC-H series - to build a new airport for Istanbul, Turkey

Liebherr has started delivering tower cranes to fulfil the company’s largest ever single order. A contract for 58 tower cranes from the EC-H series was placed by Turkish contractor İGA Havalimanı İşletmesi A.Ş with Liebherr-Werk Biberach for the construction of the new Istanbul airport.

The order comprises 32 units of 280 EC-H 12 Litronic, 16 units of the 200 EC-H 10 Litronic, and 10 of the 154 EC-H 6 Litronic. All are conventional saddle jib tower cranes with cat heads and pendants. Capacities are 12, 10 and 6 tonnes, respectively, and hook heights will be between 30 and 60 metres.

The İstanbul Yeni Havalimanı is also destined to break records in its own right as the largest airport in the world with 150 milllion passengers a year, Liebherr said. Work started in June 2014 on the 9,000 hectare site which is 35 km north of Istanbul. It will have six runways and 165 stands.

Rüdiger Boeck, Liebherr-Werk Biberach regional sales manager for eastern Europe and the Bosporus, commented, “The Liebherr Tower Crane Solutions department has specialized in these complex construction projects and was able to score heavily with a low cost solution for this order.”

Short delivery time and local service by Attila Dural Trading Co. Ltd. were also primary reasons for winning the order, Liebherr said. The tower cranes will be on site until 2018.
