German crane company Rachinger used a Grove GMK5220 all terrain crane to construct a warehouse in Herriedon, Germany, for toymaker Playmobil.

The project was the first job for the 220 tonne capacity GMK5220, which was added to Rachinger’s fleet in June 2013. The 5-axle crane has a 68 metre boom and a maximum reach of 105 m when configured with a jib.

Tasks at the Playmobil storage facility included installing pre-cast concrete pieces weighing up to 29 tonnes at a radius of 17 m, a company spokesperson said.

Crane driver Klaus Maag, said, “This job demonstrated the precise load-handling skills of the GMK5220. The crane is really responsive; you feel the quality as soon as you step on the pedal. Thanks to the special features of the Allison transmission system and Megatrak suspension system, road handling is never an issue.”

Reinhold Rachinger said, “A new crane is a big investment so we research carefully to ensure we choose the right one. The GMK5220 was the front runner because it is fully equipped for our needs and all of its features, especially the unique aluminum wheel rims that only Grove offers, keep the crane within the legal weight limits of Germany’s roads. This is crucial for us.”
