Crane and transport specialist Gustav Seeland in Germany has extended its rental fleet with a new Grove GMK5250XL-1 all terrain.

The 250 tonner is the Hamburg-based company’s largest crane. It is also the crane in the 90-year-old business’s fleet with the longest boom, at 78.5 metres in eight sections.

“The enormous reach and strong lifting capacities of the Grove GMK5250XL-1 bring new capabilities to our fleet and will help us deliver the professional lifting and transport solutions for which we are famous. Our clients operate in a wide range of sectors, including construction, energy, and infrastructure, and they will all benefit from this new addition,” said Johann Evers, Gustav Seeland managing director.

The five axle GMK5250XL-1 has one Mercedes OM471LA Euromot 5 diesel engine producing 390 kW for the carrier and to power the crane. For road travel it drives through a Mercedes G280-16 gearbox and an option is the Viab Turbo retarder clutch for braking and soft starts.

For crane operation the Eco Mode function can use as much as 30 per cent less fuel than preceding models, the manufacturer said.

In addition to mobile crane rental, Gustav Seeland offers, among other things, industrial installation and engineering, heavy haulage, specialized transport and truck-mounted crane operations. The company has calculated that in its 90 years it has moved 7.2 million tonnes of cargo and completed 2,123 assemblies.
