Gulf Coast project milestone for Mammoet

Mammoet has completed a major milestone with the installation of the main cryogenic heat exchanger (MCHE), described as the heart of train one, at a liquefaction project along the US Gulf Coast.

The lift of the MCHE, which weighed a total of 650,000 pounds (295 tonnes), was a dual lift using a Terex-Demag CC 2800 lattice boom crawler crane for the main lift and a Liebherr LR 1300sx lattice crawler for tailing. The inclement weather was challenging and meant broadening the travel path for transport, smoothing the roads, and re-doing the crane pads and travel path after storms.

The project comprises three natural gas liquefaction trains with liquefied natural gas (LNG) export capacity of 1.7 billion cubic feet per day. It will be one of the largest LNG export terminals in the USA.

Randall Fox, Mammoet USA senior project manager, said, “The combined efforts and hard work of all crews on site made this a safe and successful installation. The crews displayed an ‘adapt and overcome’ mentality to many obstacles to execute this operation in a truly professional fashion.”
