Hiab wins award for HiVision

Load handling equipment company Hiab, part of Cargotec, has won the KWF-Vision award for its HiVision crane control launched earlier this year. It was presented at the recent forest technology event KWF in Rodin, Germany.
The KWF jury said, “HiVision is an innovative form of a crane control. The safety and comfort are remarkable and are complemented by a precise control system and good visibility. The novel camera-based 3D technologies provide important steps for improved functionality, ergonomics and safety, pioneering new ideas in crane control in the forest.”
HiVision was first launched in April 2016 in connection to the Bauma exhibition in Munich, where approximately 3,000 visitors tested the system, the company said. The operator sits in the cab of the truck and uses joysticks to operate the functions of the crane. Cameras on top of the crane allow the operator to see the working area and operate the crane using the VR goggles and the Hiab HiVision 3D control system.
Jon Lopez, VP of forestry cranes at Hiab, said, “We are extremely proud of this innovation award, which is the forest business ‘Oscar prize’. We were sure during the project phase that HiVision will shape the future of load handling.”
Roland Sundén, president at Hiab, said, “I want to thank the dedicated forestry and Hiab R&D teams. This award proves what a pioneering mind-set our people have, and what kind of results it brings.”
