Hilti is creating a UK-based hub for Northern Europe covering sales, marketing and purchasing in the UK, Ireland, Sweden, Finland and Denmark.

Gareth Lewis, formerly working for Hilti in North America as general manager South, will lead the hub as general manager Great Britain (GB) and region head of Northern Europe. This role replaces and expands on the preceding managing director's role.

Mr Lewis, who joined Hilti in 1999 and has worked in senior positions at the company in Europe and North America, said; "The UK is the second biggest economy in Europe and coupled with the business and cultural similarities with Northern European countries, it makes eminent sense to have the significant presence and workforce in this country.

He said the company saw strong growth opportunities by using Hilti's strength in "supply chain management, technical support and health and safety, including our market leading products designed to minimise dust, working at height and hand-arm vibration".
