Howden secures compressor contract for hydrogen plant in UK

A subsidiary of INEOS has granted a contract to Howden to supply a low pressure piston compressor and a high pressure diaphragm compressor for a hydrogen production facility in Runcorn, UK.

Howden customised its solution to fit the needs of INOVYN, an INEOS subsidiary, while reducing the total cost of ownership of its operations.

Already Europe’s largest operator of electrolysis technology used to make clean hydrogen, INOVYN’s Runcorn site can power over 1000 buses or 2000 trucks with low-carbon fuel.

The compressors will enable INOVYN to supply compressed fuel-cell quality hydrogen to the transport and industrial sectors. With Howden’s support, INOVYN is able to tap into the emerging hydrogen fuel-cell market in the UK and boost its revenue from co-produced hydrogen, realising the business’ mission to lead the UK to net-zero carbon emissions, Howden said.
