Komatsu Europe International has further expanded its MR-3 range of excavators with the launch of the 5.2 t class PC55MR-3 midi excavator.

The new model - which replaces the previous PC50 - has a Stage IIIA engine (28.5 kW Komatsu 4D88E-6), proportional controls, and offers auto-idling as an option.

The MR-3 range, built in Italy and covering 1.4 t to 5.5 t models, is now almost complete, with just a 2 t unit to be launched in early 2011.

The PC55 has an operating weight of 5280 to 5350 kg, and has a "tight" tail design making it suitable for working in restricted spaces. It has a bucket capacity 0.07 to 0.175 m3 and is available with either long or short arm, cab or canopy, and rubber, steel or road liner shoes.

Komatsu's KOMTRAX remote satellite monitoring system is fitted as standard.

The CLSS hydraulic system has been further enhanced on this model with new, optional fingertip controls acting on the first auxiliary hydraulic line, offering "improved versatility and 'controlability' to guarantee maximum precision with minimum finger fatigue when working with attachments."

Another option is an auto-idling system to lower noise levels and reduce energy consumption. The system is triggered if the control levers are left in neutral position for more than a few seconds.

Komatsu said the excavator offers "unequalled comfort", despite its compact size. "Special attention was given to the operator's wellbeing, with ergonomic and dedicated PPC controls, and, as an option, an efficient air conditioning and ventilation system", said the company.
