Japan-based manufacturer Komatsu is highlighting the importance of waste management at the 2023 ConExpo exhibition, currently underway in the United States, with the introduction of its new next-generation WA475-10 wheeled loader and waste guarding package.

The WA475-10 is a 25-t machine that is fitted with a 6-cylinder Komatsu diesel engine and includes Komatsu’s hydraulic mechanical transmission (K-HMT) and the Auto Idle Shutdown feature, which contribute to a 30% greater fuel efficiency offering than the company’s WA475-8 predecessor model.

It has a top forward travel speed of 38 kph and a 4.6 cu m-capacity bucket that has been redesigned to better hold load material.

The design of WA475-10 was based on customer feedback, and so its pressurized cab includes a number of new features that make it easier and more comfortable to operate than its predecessor.

“The wheel loader’s Independent Work Equipment Control simplifies operation and reduces fuel consumption by separating the accelerator pedal from the speed of the work equipment,” said Komatsu.

“Incorporating feedback from the field, the improved operating environment includes floor-to-ceiling glass, ergonomically designed switch layouts, and a fully-adjustable 5-axis console for enhanced operator comfort.”

The model is available with a customizable waste guarding package and tyre options, which “can be configured for specific waste or scrap handling applications”.

The optional package, which comprises axle seal guards, a bucket cylinder guard, a front and rear frame underguard and a fuel tank guard, help protect the wheeled loader’s vital machines parts - both from damage, wear and debris. To ensure the safety of the machine operator, it also includes a front window guard to defend against large debris.
