Liebherr tower cranes help build the Harbiye Kongre Merkezi congress centre in Istanbul, Turkey

Turkish contractor Sembol and Taca is using three Liebherr tower cranes to help build the new Istanbul congress centre in Turkey.

The tower cranes were supplied new by the German manufacturer's Turkish distributor Atilla Dural for the construction of the new centre, named Harbiye Kongre Merkezi. It is being built for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and is in the Harbiye district of the city, known for its convention, exhibition and hotel facilities.

The cranes include two 154 EC-H 10 FR.tronic units and one 132 EC-HM 6 FR.tronic that are being hired from Atilla's rental division, Duramak. A further Liebherr tower crane, probably a 130 EC-B 6, will be used on the site, according to the company.

The 154 EC-H cranes have a maximum radius of 60 m, at which they can lift 1.4 tonnes. Maximum lifting capacity is 10 tonnes and maximum hook height is 72.1 m. The crane is designed for fast and easy erection and is aimed at medium to large construction projects, said the company.

The 132 EC-HM 6 F.R.tronic has a maximum radius of 60 m at which it can lift 1.2 tonnes. Maximum load is 6 tonnes and maximum hook height is 68 m.

The Harbiye Kongre Merkezi is being built alongside the Cemil Topuzlu Harbiye Amphitheatre concert venue. Adjacent is the Lutfi Kirdar Congress Centre and Exhibition Hall, and behind the site is the Istanbul Hilton, also a convention venue. Completion will be 2011.
