French rental company Loxam saw its revenues fall by over 17% in 2009, but it remains the largest rental company in Europe.

French crane company Mediaco is to sell three of its non-crane rental businesses to Loxam for an undisclosed price.

Loxam is acquiring MMS, a portable accommodation business located in Fos-sur-Mer; Medialoc, a general equipment rental business in Carcassonne; and MSO, a Toulouse-based access rental operation.

The three acquired businesses had combined revenues of €4.5 million last year.

The businesses will join existing Loxam divisions: MMS becomes part of Loxam Module, Medialoc part of Loxam Rental and MSO part of Loxam Access.

Loxam said in a statement that the acquisitions would strengthen its regional position in southern France. It added that "the teams that have contributed to the reputation and expertise of these [three businesses] will join the 4300 strong employees of the Loxam Group."

Loxam is Europe's largest general equipment rental company, while Mediaco, led by Christian-Jacques Vernazza, is one of Europe's largest crane rental companies, with more than 700 cranes.
