Mendes Junior executives convicted in Brazil

The Brazilian Justice issued its ruling in prison against the former vice president of the construction company Mendes Junior, and two other company executives, for their involvement in the corruption scandal in the state Petrobras.

Sergio Mendes Cunha, former vice president and heir of the family that owns the construction company, received sentences of 19 years and four months in prison for corruption, relating to crime and money laundering in contracts with the state.

The other executives are convicted Rogerio Pereira Cunha - arrested for the same crimes – who was given 17 years and four months, and Elísio Alberto Gomes, who was sentenced to ten years in prison. Both were related to contracts with Petrobras that Mendes Junior would have helped defraud.

In addition, the builder will have to return about 31.5 million reais to Brazilian oil company (around US $ 8.6 million). This is the value of bribes and detours involved in their involvement in the scandal.

Angelo Alves Mendes, former director of the company, and engineer José Humberto Resende Cruvinel were considered innocent with regards the participation of Mendes Junior in the corruption case.
