Illegal Construction Work In Moscow Is Believed To have caused an accident on the city's metro system last month. The accident occurred when contractor Polyus drove a concrete pillar for an unauthorised advertising hoarding through the top of the metro tunnel and into the roof of a moving train.

According to the Moscow prosecutor's office, the train driver saw the pillar come through the roof between Volkovskaya and Sokol stations and activated the emergency brake. The pillar hit the right hand side of the first carriage before becoming lodged in the roof of the third carriage but the passengers escaped injury.

Polyus general director Radislav Ryba is being questioned about the incident as part of a criminal investigation.
