Mobile harbour crane in South Korea

South Korean terminal operator Pyeongtaek Dangjin Central Terminal (PDCT) has bought a Gottwald Model 4 mobile harbour crane made by Finnish manufacturer Konecranes. It is a G HMK 4406 variant with a maximum lifting capacity of 100 tonnes and an outreach up to 46 metres.

The new diesel-electric crane is being used to handle bulk and some general cargo in PDCT’s terminal, situated around 80 km south of Seoul on the west coast of South Korea. The crane is equipped with an external power supply to hook up to the terminal’s mains for eco-efficient operation, said PDCT.

PDCT is a joint venture between two South Korean logistic groups, KCTC and Sebang. J. H. Park, executive director at PDCT, said, “PDCT ordered its first Konecranes Gottwald mobile harbour crane in 1989, and a second one in 1996. KCTC now operates three cranes, and Sebang operates two. The cranes have significantly contributed to the sustainable growth of the companies’ handling rates. It was hence logical to also rely on technology from Konecranes in our terminal in Pyeongtaek, where the new machine replaced the first crane that was almost 30 years old.”
