UK rental company Midland Truck Mounts (MTM) has purchased its first tracked access platform, a Multitel SMX 225 from distributor Access Industries.

MTM, which specialises in the hire of truck-mounted platforms, spent time researching the tracked access market before making the purchase.

Managing director, Martin Rickman, said, “We have cross hired a number of different tracked access platforms for a wide range of different jobs, not only to evaluate opportunities in this sector but also to gain more knowledge on the different makes of equipment available. In the end the decision was somewhat easier than we had initially anticipated – it came down to do we go for a Multitel SMX 225 or a SMX 250?”

MTM opted for the smaller of the two units, the SMX 225. This offers a 22.5 m working height and 10.25 m of outreach and weighs 2550 kg. It is powered by a Kubota diesel engine with an electric motor for internal use. Cage rotation is 90 degrees each way and the unit has non-marking tracks.

The new SMX 225 was put out to work shortly after delivery, installing a telecommunications dish and doing line of sight work.
