Jimmy Wang, founder and chairman, China Construction Bright Futures Machinery, one of the top 10 rental companies in China, has forecasted that in 10 years time there will be one million MEWPs working in China.

The incredible figure will come as a result of expanding infrastructure to accommodate such growth, said Mr Wang at the International Rental Conference Asia, taking place in Shanghai on 26 November.

The company has more than 1000 MEWPs and power generators in its fleet and has four subsidiaries, one of which is JLG dealer for East China, another being for Dingli in the Yangtze Delta.

“The AWP market is burgeoning in China. It is due to increased geographic expansion. Industrial expansion is also gaining more pace, the labour force is more sophisticated and there is a greater understanding of the equipment.”

Mr Wang added that the 3 to 5m working height low level access sector will see huge demand in the near future. “From a functional requirement and in terms of safety there will be a high demand.”

He said that 10 years ago there were 2,000 units in China and now the figure stands at around 80,000. “Three years ago when we had 35% growth, people asked if we could maintain it. I said yes. Now we have 40%-45% growth. This will increase in the next three to five years.”
