With a value of € 945 million (US$ 1.23 billion) to Porr, the company said the project in Qatar’s capital city is the largest contract in its history. It added that this had also taken its order backlog to a record € 4.5 billion (US$ 5.9 billion).

This contract award follows enabling works that were awarded to Porr in August last year. Among the elements of the Green Line project are the construction of a 16.6 km double tunnel tube and also six stations over a five-year construction period.

Porr CEO Karl-Heinz Strauss said, “We have been preparing intensively for this tender for the past two years, including setting up a dedicated subsidiary in Qatar as a hub for the entire region. In a relatively short time we were able to convince the awarding authorities of the high quality of our work and PORR’s reliability, which makes us the best partner for complex infrastructure projects.”

The full Doha metro project consists of the Red Line North, Red Line South, Gold Line and Green Line and is part of Qatar’s “National Development Plan for 2030” infrastructure initiative. Recent weeks have seen two similarly large contracts for sections of the Red Line awarded to consortiums including Vinci and Impregilo.
