The Dana Rexroth HVT R3 for wheeled loaders and graders contains both a hydrostatic and torque converter drive.

A key focus on the Dana stand will be the HVT R3 drive system, developed by its joint venture with Bosch Rexroth. Designed for wheeled loaders and graders, the unit contains both a hydrostatic and torque converter drive.

The company says the HVT 3 can deliver 20% fuel savings compared to a traditional torque converter, thanks to the use of the hydrostatic drive at low speeds, where it is at its most efficient. As speed increases, the torque converter transmission comes into operation.

The increased efficiency means a smaller engine could be used in any given vehicle, and there are also reduced maintenance costs thanks to braking via the hydrostatic system.

Also new from Dana is the Spicer 318 HCVT continuously variable transmission for 6 to 9 tonne operating weight telescopic handlers. The unit uses two hydrostatic motors in tandem with different capacities to achieve the continuously variable speed, and Dana says that as well as providing a smoother ride, higher travel speeds are also possible.
