Phoenix Metals’ new Sennebogen 830 M is fitted with the latter’s Vario tool connect system to allow rapid switching from shear to grapple

Phoenix Metals & Demolition Ltd, based in Anglesey, Wales, recently took delivery of a new Sennebogen 830 M equipped with the Sennebogen Vario Tool from E. H. Hassell and Sons, the responsible Sennebogen port sales and service partner. The Vario Tool is a fully hydraulic, multi-functional tool changing system that allows this single machine to use both a 5,000 kg (11,000 lb) Genesis GXP 400R scrap shear and a grapple.

When working on a source site, the two tools are placed on a Ro-RO container and transported to the site, with a dust proof coupling guard on both to prevent dust and grime ingress into the hydraulic system. The 830 M’s 3 m (9.9 ft) transport width allows the machine to be transported on a flatbed trailer. Once there, it can be unloaded and be at work within minutes.

The 830 M is powered by a 164 kW (220 hp) diesel and is fitted with Sennebogen’s 13 m (43 ft) VT boom. The Maxcab fitted to the machine can be hydraulically elevated to a height of 5.6 m (18.4 ft) to provide the operator a clear view of all loading and sorting operations.

At its Gwynedd facility, Phoenix processes more than 250 tonnes of scrap per week, with the material coming from industrial and commercial operations, as well as from surrounding households.
