Somatra buys Demag all terrain

The Montargis, France-based branch of Swiss transport and logistics company Somatra has taken delivery of a new five-axle, 220 tonne capacity Demag AC 220-5 all terrain crane, made by Terex Cranes. The crane has a 78-metre-long main boom and a maximum system length of 99 m. The crane remains under an axle load limit of 12 tonnes, even with a payload of up to 0.6 t, and has a compact design, said Terex.
According to Cyrille Morisseau, manager of Somatra, the company conducted extensive research before settling on the Demag. “What impressed us the most about the Demag all terrain crane, was all of the operator-friendly innovations, and this unit’s power and versatility,” he said. “The onboard IC-1 Plus control system is something we thought was a unique feature that would make operators much more efficient. It determines the crane’s lifting capacities in real-time, which means the operator is always aware of the crane’s load limits — no matter the slewing angle of the superstructure. It will help us reduce the amount of counterweight we need to carry from job-to-job and allows us to use this unit on more heavy lifting projects.”
The company has already deployed the new crane on several projects around the area.
