Urban factors in demolition projects

Demolition sites are more commonly located at the city centre placed in the middle of buildings, streets and municipal operations as well as in old industrial areas.

In these kinds of demolition projects and the construction after demolition, different challenges arise. For example, environmental contamination, geotechnical structures and stormwater control.

Combining all the basics (geotechnical, environmental and demolition) before the project starts can lower the risks of a slow projects or hold-ups during the work.

Sanna Lepistö

Sanna has worked as a consultant in the environmental and industrial field since 2009. She has an MSc in chemical technology and a civil engineering qualification. Sanna is a certified asbestos and hazardous substances professional in Finland and a certified environmental sampler.

Mostly, Sanna works on demolition projects as well as contaminated soil investigations and remediation. Demolition projects consist of planning, pre-demolition surveys such as asbestos and contaminated soil surveys, inviting tenders and supervising the contracts.

In addition, she undertakes HSEQ (health, safety, environmental and quality) audits in Finland and other European countries, and EDD (environmental due diligence) surveys for international clients.

The World Demolition Summit is organised by KHL Group magazine Demolition & Recycling International, along with the European Demolition Association and the US National Demolition Association. The headline sponsor is Volvo Construction Equipment.
