Speedy delivers retrofitted Stage V emission compliant generator

In what is thought to be an industry first, Speedy Hire has produced a retrofitted Stage V emission compliant generator following a trial period.

The trial, carried out alongside exhaust systems specialist Eminox, is part of a drive from Speedy to make greener generators more available to the construction industry.

In its part, Eminox provided an exhaust aftertreatment system that enabled the “cost-effective” upgrade of existing generators.

As a result of the aftertreatment, the respective companies were able to retrofit Speedy’s Stage IIIa generators to Stage V emission compliant standards.

According to Speedy, the generators can limit the overall volume of harmful pollutants, such as nitrogen oxide and carbon monoxide in exhaust gas and are compatible with hydrotreated vegetable oil.

The UK-based company believes the retrofitted generator will help contractors working on infrastructure and construction projects that require equipment to meet Stage V emission standards to lower the impact on air quality.

Nick White, UK sales director – power, at Speedy, said: “All major contractors are looking for Stage V generator technology as they strive to support sustainably ambitious projects, that goes above and beyond the current legislation on environmental impact. But demand is massively outweighing supply, with low availability blocking contractors from switching to greener power alternatives.

“We’ve invested millions of pounds in our Stage IIIa fleet over the last few years. Retrofitting these units to the increasingly essential Stage V emission compliant standard will help to deliver the capacity the market needs, while ultimately enabling contractors to operate more sustainably.”

All Speedy generators between 60kva to 250kva will be able to be retrofitted, according to Aminox, who say they will be working in partnership with the hire company on future projects.

Following the completion of the trial, Speedy has pledged £1 million towards upgrading its existing line of Stage IIIa generators, to ensure they are Stage V emission compliant.
