Associated British Ports (ABP) Port of Southampton, UK, has ordered two 63 tonne capacity HMK 170 E mobile harbour cranes from Gottwald Port Technology. Including this order, Gottwald said it has sold 75 mobile harbour cranes into the UK.

Doug Morrison, ABP port director, Southampton, added, "The Port of Southampton has grown considerably in recent years, requiring significant investment on ABP's part. As part of our 25-year agreement with Huelin-Renouf, which provides shipping and freight forwarding services to and from the Channel Islands, we invested £6 million (US$10.6 million) in new facilities to support the business."

Morrison continued, "This prompted our subsequent order of two new mobile harbour cranes. Gottwald's HMK 170 E cranes are ideal for our needs and we very much look forward to receiving them and putting them to good use on the quayside."

The two cranes, to be used for container handling, are being assembled on site. Commissioning is scheduled for September and October 2008.
