US Army chooses Manitowoc

Manitowoc Cranes has been awarded a US$192 million contract to supply Grove all terrain cranes to the US Army.

The deal is due to last five years and includes supplying customised GMK4100B cranes. The models will have a 60 US ton (54 tonne) capacity, 108 foot (33 metre) boom, a 390 hp Mercedes engine and an 8 x 6 x 8 drive/steer configuration. Additional features will include pile driver, clamshell, concrete bucket and concrete barrier lifting attachments. A protection system will also be installed.

Darryl Mellott, Manitowoc Cranes director of government marketing, said, “We’ve been working on this opportunity for more than four years and this tender award is testament to our unparalleled focus in delivering the best return on investment for the customer. The US Army had direct input on the customisation of these 60 US ton capacity Grove GMK4100Bs, which will be optimised for their missions around the world.”

The customised GMK4100Bs will be built and tested at the Manitowoc factory in Shady Grove, Pennsylvania, USA.
