Vermeer has launched a professional brush cutter for the European market filling a gap between its BC160 and BC1000 models.

The new BC230XL has a 23 cm by 35.5 cm infeed opening size and weighs 1980 kg. This places it between the 16 cm BC160 and the 30 cm BC1000. Built by Vermeer in the US, the new unit is powered by a 49.2 kW stage IIIB Kubota diesel engine.

Robbert Dedding, Vermeer’s regional sales manager - global accounts, who is based in the Netherlands, told IRN that the new model will appeal to professional users. The lighter duty BC160, which was also developed for Europe, is a model that can be used by both consumer and professional users.

Vermeer said the BC230’s ‘SmartFeed’ system, in combination with twin hydraulic motors, pulls in and processes difficult material, reducing preparation time. The unit’s 180 degree rotating upper structure makes it ideal for safe working along roadsides by allowing the operator to place the infeed where the material is.

Mr Dedding said the machine had already been shown to the market at several exhibitions in Germany, France and the UK, including GalaBau, and that the company was now building up a stock of machines with dealers in Europe.
