MEC Aerial Platforms plans to show an innovative new rough terrain scissor lift at ConExpo.

MEC's Jim Tolle, speaking to Access International at the recent Rental Show, said the company had developed a special platform design, with one side having a 4 inch projection beyond the wheels and chassis to provide better access to the sides of buildings.

A rack on the same side to carry glazing panels is also going to be an option on this machine. The platform's total 1000 lb (450 kg) capacity will be split 50/50 between the rack and the platform.

Meanwhile, Mr Tolle told AI that MEC had currently switched its telehandler production line to Titan models. MEC told AI that the company has not closed down the telehandler line but is only running production orders for 20 units or more. Mr Tolle said demand for the Titan continued to grow and that he hoped to reach an annual production capacity of around 500 units.

A larger 60 ft Titan is planned for 2012 and Mr Tolle said an 80 ft version could follow. He said the challenge would be to produce that machine with a weight of less than 45000 lb (20 t).

MEC will have more details on the 60 ft Titan at ConExpo, where it exhibits in the Silver Lot, booth S-19130.
