Cemex names new chairman and CEO

Cemex has split the role of chairman and CEO following the death of Lorenzo Zambrano. Executive vice president, Fernando Gonzalez has assumed the role of CEO and Rogelio Zambrano, a long-standing board member and cousin of the late Lorenzo Zambrano has been named chairman.

Rogelio Zambrano has been a member of Cemex’s board since 1987 and president of its finance committee since 2009. He is a graduate in industrial engineering from the Tecnologico de Monterrey, Mexico and holds an MBA from The Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, US.

“We will stay focused on creating value for all our stakeholders. Our new CEO and the whole of Cemex’s executive committee have the vision, skills, and experience to do exactly that, and I am very optimistic about CEMEX’s future. Lorenzo Zambrano’s legacy will endure and his vision and passion for excellence will continue to inspire us in the years to come,” he said.

Mr Gonzalez joined Cemex in 1989 and has held a number of senior management positions, including CFO. He has also led Cemex’s businesses in Latin America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
