Technology giant Apple has released plans to build a 37,000 m2 data centre in Iowa, US, run entirely on renewable energy.
The firm reports it will invest some US$1.3 billion in the project, creating more than 550 construction and operations jobs in the Des Moines area.
Apple has also promised to invest up to $100 million in community development and infrastructure in the local area.
The announcement is part of Appleās pledge to power all of its global operations with 100% renewable energy, a goal it has already achieved in the US and 23 other countries.
Construction on the data centre is set to begin early next year, with full operation planned for 2020.
