New tower for Shanghai

Ground has been broken on a 200m-high tower in Shanghai, China.

The 42-storey office, designed by UK-based architect Foster + Partners will be the first in the newly regenerated Suhewan East Urban Complex, and will be owned by property developer China Resources Land.

The Chinese government are looking to make Shanghai a world-renowned financial and technology centre by 2020.

Gerard Evenden, head of studio for Foster + Partners, said, “The project occupies a pivotal position in the city, as a rapidly growing area for new businesses. In consonance with the city’s future vision for the area, our focus has been to provide a modern landmark inspired by its rich history and industrial past.

“The floorplates have been designed to enhance collaboration and communication, with special emphasis on natural daylight, as organisations look towards healthier and more open spaces to work.”
