€128 million EU fund for Croatian water project

The European Union (EU) has announced it will fund a new water utility infrastructure upgrade project in Croatia, to the tune of €128 million.
The modernisation project will include the construction of a water supply, drainage and sewerage system, and will cover the cities of Split and Solin.
The EU’s cohesion and reforms commissioner, Elisa Ferreira, said the new system would guarantee residents high-quality drinking water and cleaner waste water, in line with relevant EU directives.
In addition to environmental benefits, the European Commission said it expects the upgrade to have a beneficial effect on tourism, which is the main economic activity in the area.
