Terex Utilities launched several new products during the International Construction & Utility Equipment Expo (ICUEE), Oct. 3-5 in Louisville, KY. At least 24 pieces of equipment from the company’s aerial devices, digger derricks, auger drills and cranes product lines were on display.
Making its debut was the Optima Series of aerial devices, featuring lower travel height, better ground access and improved boom speeds. Featuring greater reliability, efficiency and simplified operation and maintenance, the 50- to 60-foot class of Hi-Ranger over-center and non-over-center aerial devices have been engineered to improve performance, company said. Four models from the Optima aerial series were at the show.
The new Optima TC, TCX, HR, and HRX Series feature product enhancements in the heart of the Hi-Ranger aerial device product line.
“Performance, productivity, and safety are among the top concerns of electric utility customers,” said Joe Caywood, director of marketing. “Terex Utilities has responded to customer requests time and again in an effort to provide continuous improvement of our products that are rooted in these three areas of focus.
“Optima is built on the strong foundation of Hi-Ranger, designed to provide greater reliability, efficiency and simplified operation and maintenance. Product improvements include greater payload capacity, better boom speeds, enhanced side reach and ground access, as well as features that improve maintenance access and reliability on the Optima Hi-Ranger aerials.”
Improved boom speeds and responsiveness have been accomplished by redesigning the hydraulic circuit and optimizing the hydraulic cylinders, Terex said. An expanded working range optimizes capacity and also supports improved ground access.
“The lower ground access makes it easier for operators to hand off tools to ground personnel, clean out debris in the bucket and is useful in operator recovery situations,” said Caywood.
Optima TC and HR models boast three feet more side reach. A visual indicator light shows the operator when the boom moves into the extended reach area of the working range. The addition of the optional Load Alert system further enhances safe work practices by monitoring the truck’s jib and basket capacity.
In addition, all Optima aerial devices now have 700-pound platform capacity as standard. Optional 800-pound capacity platforms are available on the Optima TCX and HRX models. An optional two single man 24 x 30-inch platform is available with capacity of 700 pounds (350 pounds for each bucket.)
