Solley Crane Service's new Terex AC 500-2 All Terrain crane gets to work

Decatur, Alabama-based Solley Crane Service has added a new 600 US ton (500 metric tonne) capacity class Terex AC 500-2 all terrain crane to its fleet.

The new machinery has already been put to use, working on the Cullman, Alabama railroad yard, where it was called on to unload press parts for a local automotive parts manufacturer.

The crane’s counterweight and boom sections were transported to the jobsite on lowboy trailers, while the crane was driven to the railroad facility. It was ready to lift on the day after it was loaded out for the jobsite.

According to Ray Solley, president of Solley Crane, the new addition is saving both time and money. He said the new crane saved the company about half a day of rigging on both ends of its first job.

Over four days at the railroad yard, the AC 500-2 and Solley Crane’s six crew members performed six lifts to transfer all the automotive press pieces. With the largest press part weighing 140 tons (127 tonnes), the crane required only 110 tons (100 tonnes) of its 195 tons (180 tonnes) of counterweight.

Solley Cranes has been operating for 40 years and offers a fleet of 50 units, a large number of them from Terex.
