Jumbo wins decom work

Maritime heavy lift company Jumbo has been awarded an offshore decommissioning project in the North Sea by international energy and water company Taqa Energy BV. The job involves the removal, transportation, and disposal of three subsea protection domes and piles.

The project is part of the growing number of decommissioning projects in the North Sea, where Jumbo said much of the offshore oil and gas infrastructure is reaching the end of its productive life and must be safely removed and disposed.

Jumbo’s MV Fairplayer vessel will carry out the work in 2019 to 2020. Three subsea protection domes, each with a dry weight of 150 tonnes, will be recovered and transported and nine piles removed. Furthermore, the pipelines and umbilicals at each dome will be buried with mattresses, Jumbo said. By removing and transporting the structures to shore on one heavy-lift crane vessel, Jumbo claimed it provides a cost-efficient, reliable and safe decommissioning solution.
