1,500 tonne Huisman offshore crane for SeaJacks

Huisman, a manufacturer of lifting, drilling and subsea products, has won a contract from South Korean shipyard Samsung Heavy Industries to build a 1,500 tonne leg encircling crane.

The crane will be installed on Seajacks' new offshore wind farm installation vessel Scylla. It will lift 1,500 tonnes at 32 metres radius, a company spokesperson said. It will be fitted on top of the starboard-aft jack house which holds one of the 105 m long legs of the jack-up vessel, the manufacturer added.

Gerben Roks, Huisman product and sales manager for cranes, said, “This is the third Huisman crane ordered by Seajacks which will be used for the installation of wind turbines. We appreciate the confidence of both Seajacks and Samsung Heavy Industries in our products and we will keep building on our knowledge and experience to further expand our crane range in the field of dedicated wind turbine installation cranes”.

Alongside the offshore crane, Huisman will also supply two 50 tonne auxiliary cranes.

The cranes will be built at the Huisman production facility in Xiamen, China. Delivery is scheduled for the second quarter of 2015.
