Columbian HEP for Impregilo

An Impregilo led consortium has won the contract to construct a hydroelectric power (HEP) plant on the river Sogamoso in north-western Columbia, about 40 km from the city of Bucaramanga.

The project, worth about € 345 million (US$ 500 million), includes construction of a 190 m-high, 300 m-long dam and an underground power station, which will house three turbines totalling 820 MW of installed power.

Impregilo is already carrying out preliminary work for the dam, which includes construction of two diversion tunnels and a system of access tunnels and roads to the underground power station, which is worth a further € 55 million (US$ 80 million).

The contract was awarded by ISAGEN, a mixed public/private concession holder active in power generation in Columbia.

Impregilo's local partners are Columbia's Conalvias and Tecnica Vial.

Impregilo is currently constructing another three hydroelectric plants in Venezuela, Ecuador and South Africa.
