Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd. continues to invest in its Killarney, Ireland facility with a new machining facility

Liebherr Container Cranes has invested €15 million (US$21 million) in a purpose-built machining hall at its Killarney, Ireland facility.

It follows a €30 Million ($42 million) investment in a steel processing hall between 2008 and 2009. The new facility, 25.5 m wide and 49 m long, houses a Colgar FRAL 401 CNC boring and milling machine.

The Colgar machine has a travel path of 25,000 mm and a vertical axis travel of 5.000 mm. The CAD/CAM integrated machine means that the largest ship-to-shore (STS) crane parts can be machined in a single set-up with unprecedented precision, said the company.

The machine is supported by two purpose-built rail mounted gantry cranes each fitted with two trolleys and with full remote control. Through access is via a continuous rail system with hangar type doors.

More than 350 container cranes have been delivered to over 40 countries on all five continents.
