Impregilo fines annulled

21 June 2010

Italy's Supreme Court of Cassation has upheld Impregilo's appeal against fines handed down by the Naples Court of Review in connection with an investigation into waste disposal in the Camania region of Italy.

In the Supreme Court's ruling, € 146 million of assets seized by the Naples Court is to be returned to Impregilo with immediate effect. The outstanding € 120 million of assets was referred back to the Naples Court for a further ruling.

The Naples prosecutor appealed the annulment, but this appeal was rejected by the Supreme Court.

The judge for the ruling in Italy's final court of appeal said, "The Court annuls with no further recourse the order appealed with regards to the seizure from Impregilo of € 99 million and € 51,6 million. It also annuls the order appealed with regard to the outstanding amount under seizure and refers the matter to the Court of Naples for a new review. It rejects the appeal lodged by the prosecutor."
