Engine and power generation specialist Cummins has opened a new cross-business UK Logistics Centre (UKLC).

A spokesperson told IRN the centre will be instrumental to the distribution of Cummins’ engines in UK and Ireland, many of them utilised in rental plant and machinery. It will also play an important role in the global distribution of Cummins generators.

Cummins’ new UK Logistics Centre in Daventry, Northamptonshire.

The 40,400 square metre facility in Apex Park, Daventry, West Northamptonshire, consolidates storage capacity previously shared across Cummins and third-party warehouses and.

It will support Cummins’ UK manufacturing sites and aftermarket products.

Andy Fenn, Site Leader for UKLC, said the centre “demonstrates Cummins’ continued investment within the UK and a new way for Cummins to manage its logistics and supply chain network within Europe.

“In the current climate where jobs have been significantly impacted by COVID-19, I’m proud we’ve created nearly 100 new roles in the area, in addition to the Cummins workforce currently employed in Daventry and Rugby.”

The UKLC project which aligns with Cummins’ Planet 2050 sustainability strategy, has been given an Outstanding rating from BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method), ranking the facility in the top 1% of UK non-domestic buildings.

The warehouse is designed to be self-powered for six months of the year, utilising PV solar panels and a Cummins QSK60G gas generator set in a standby application.

It will also harvest rainwater and offer electric vehicle charging points for employees.

It builds on Cummins’ presence in Daventry and the surrounding area, including a production facility employing 1,000 people to make high horsepower engines for the power generation, mining, and rail sectors, along with complete power generation sets.
