Sarilar uses Demag CC 6800-1

Turkish lifting and heavy haul service provider Sarilar was commissioned by Italian contracting and engineering firm Termokimik to use its Demag CC 6800-1 lattice boom crawler crane, manufactured by Terex Cranes, to help with the construction of a new building at the Adana Sugözü coal-fired power station in Turkey. The CC 6800-1 was used to lift steel structures with lengths of 52 metres and weights of 255 tonnes in a confined space.

Before it could start work, the CC 6800-1 was transported from Sarilar’s base in Gebze, near Istanbul, to the work site in Adana, in the south of Turkey – a distance of 900 km. A convoy of 29 transport trucks and five heavy-haulage lowbed trailers took two weeks to complete the journey.

Once the convoy arrived at the job site, a ten-person rigging team set the crane up while the power plant was running. “This meant that there were a number of restrictions that we had to observe, especially in terms of when and where we could move,” explained technical manager Zafer Yazici, who was responsible for the project. “In addition, space at the premises was already pretty tight. We also had to use two telescopic cranes to set up the boom, sometimes working at heights of up to 15 metres. Our technicians used an aerial work platform for all work at height rigging operations.”

For the lifts, an SWSL boom configuration with a 72 metre main boom and a 42 metre luffing jib was used. The crane had a radius of 44 metres and lifted the steel structures to heights of up to 100 metres.

The lifting involved three crane operators, the site manager, a supervisor and several signal people.

The crane was scheduled to be on site for ten months and the job was completed on time.
