Transportation Partners & Logistics LLC (TP&L) has taken delivery of a Liebherr LTR 1220 telescopic boom crawler crane.

The LTR 1220, which was delivered in July this year, has a lifting capacity of 220 tonnes and a 60 metre telescopic boom. Additional reach can be acquired with a biparted swing-away jib or with an alternative boom configuration, which is made up of a 7 metre lattice section, a company spokesperson added. TP&L included all additional options in their order.

The first job for the 90 tonne crawler was at TP&L’s rail distribution yard at Garden City, Kansas, USA. Here the crawler has been unloading wind turbine mast sections off rail cars and loading them onto trucks for onward road transport, a company spokesperson said.

Jim Orr, president of TP&L, said, “The great thing about the LTR 1220 is we can retract the boom and move around a location where power lines or piping are obstacles. With a lattice boom crawler, you might have to take boom sections off to move the crane around, and that costs time and money to us and our customers.”

The crawler tracks of the LTR 1220 can also be removed, reducing the load width from 5.01 metres to 3 metres. It also includes the LICCON 2 system.
