Terex Changjiang dispatched 105 brand new truck cranes to the area of China worst hit by the 12 May earthquake.

More than 60,000 people lost their lives and another 5 million were made homeless in the earthquake which had a 7.9 magnitude at its epicentre in Wenchian County, Sichuan Province.

The cranes, valued at RMB56 million (US$8 million) made the 400 km journey in two fleets on 17 and 18 May to Wenchuan County, along with drivers and support professionals. “[This was achieved] in spite of it being a weekend and overcoming the difficulties of fuel shortages and a lack of drivers,” said Terex Changjiang.

The manufacturer sent four truck cranes, with 17 support workers, to the province the day after the earthquake. Company workers also donated RMB600,000 ($87,000) to the cause. “Now Terex Changjiang is making its best efforts to manufacture more truck cranes to meet the requirements of relief operation,” added the company.
