Attachment producer Atlas Copco is to invest €6.8 million (US$9.3 million) in the construction of a new research and development centre that will work on the development of equipment specifically for the Chinese market. The new centre is located in Nanjing and is expected to be fully operational by October 2011. In a statement, Atlas Copco said that the new R&D centre will employ some 250 people within three years of this date. The centre will provide specialist engineering services, laboratories and testing facilities.

According to Bjorn Rosengren, business area president Atlas Copco construction and mining technique: "China is one of our home markets. We are making this investment to strengthen our design and development capacity and offer our Chinese customers a shorter time to market for products designed to suit their specific needs."
