30 October 2015
Dutch construction firm BAM International is set to proceed with phase 2 of the expansion project for Julius Nyerere International Airport in Tanzania.
Valued at over € 100 million (US$ 110 million), phase 2 includes the design and construction of the new Terminal 3 at the airport in Dar es Salaam.
The total terminal building area of approximately 60,000 m2, is set to raise the airport’s total capacity to around six million passengers a year.
Designed together with NACO, Netherlands Airport Consultants, Terminal 3 anticipates the growth of international air traffic, with the existing Terminal 2 now expected to cater for domestic flights.
BAM received the instruction to proceed with phase 2, having successfully completed the first phase of construction work, awarded in 2013, at a value of over € 130 million (US$ 143 million).
Phase 1 comprised construction of the main terminal building, car parking facilities, access roads, platforms and a taxiway.
