Bechtel-Enka JV lands Kosovo contract

A joint venture between Bechtel and Enka has won the contract to build the € 735 million Morine to Merdar motorway in Kosovo. The link is described as the centrepiece of the country's transportation system, running from the border with Albania at Morine to Merdar on the Serbian border.

The joint venture will be responsible for design management, procurement and construction of the road. Work is expected to start this month.

The Bechtel-Enka joint venture is a longstanding partnership between the US and Turkish contractors that has completed more than 28000 km of roads, 100 tunnels and 25 major bridges on various infrastructure projects in Europe and Asia.

Mike Adams, president of Bechtel Civil said, "The Bechtel-Enka JV has built motorways around the world and we look forward now to working in partnership with government on this important project for the development of Kosovo and its economy."
