Belgium’s largest construction group, Besix, has acquired all the shares in the four major Belgian activities of Dutch construction company Heijmans, in order to meet rising demand from the Belgian market for integrated total solutions.

The acquisition of Heijmans Infra, a leader in both the private and public infrastructure markets, raises the profile of Besix in the Flemish region. As part of this, Besix has gained full control of Belasco, a joint venture between Heijmans Infra and the building and road construction specialists DCA. The acquisition includes possession of three asphalt production facilities, which secures their supply for future projects.

With the incorporation of Van den Berg, Besix now has capabilities in cable and pipeline construction that can be applied to the energy, water and telecom sectors.

Heijmans Bouw - well-established in the health and education sectors – is said to make a useful addition to Besix, helping to expand the group’s regional span and portfolio in Belgium.
