Bouygues consortium awarded French port contract

A Bouygues consortium has been awarded the contract for the extension of the Port of Calais, France, worth around €675 million.

The Dover Strait Ports Company (Société des Ports du Détroit) awarded the contract for Europe’s second largest passenger port to a consortium made up of Bouygues Travaux, Colas Nord-Picardie, Spie Batignolles and Jan De Nul.

The contract, which forms part of the Calais Port 2015 project, is worth around €675 million. Bouygues Construction’s share is worth around €300 million.

This project comprises a new 3km seawall along with a 100ha harbour basin, the construction of three new ferry berths, 4 million m³ of marine dredging for the new quays, and the development of a new cross-Channel traffic reception including 44ha of parking facilities and roads, as well as 20 reception buildings.

Philippe Amequin, CEO of Bouygues Travaux Publics, said, “We are very pleased to have the opportunity to play a part in the economic development of Nord-Pas de Calais-Picardie region with this project, which will provide it with a port infrastructure corresponding to its ambitions, both in terms of functionality and of quality of service.”
