Bouygues wins French Guiana hospital contract

Bouygues Construction has won the € 85 million (US$ 94 million) contract to construct the Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni hospital in French Guiana. The work will be carried out by its DV Construction and Bouygues Energies & Services subsidiaries.
The new hospital complex in the west of the country will have 25,000 m² of floor space across five buildings. It will incorporate five operating theatres, a maternity ward and a total of 250 beds. DV Construction is the lead company in the consortium. Bouygues Energies & Services will carry out the electrical, heating & ventilation, plumbing and medical fluids packages of work
Pascal Minault, CEO of Bouygues Entreprises France-Europe, said, “The construction of this multidisciplinary health facility to high standards will create jobs and it will help improve access to healthcare and the quality of life for the inhabitants of Western Guiana, a region experiencing rapid population growth.”
Bouygues said site preparation was underway and that construction of the complex was expected to take four years. At its peak, the construction project will employ more than 200 people, and Bouygues added that it has set goals for social inclusion and local training. It has undertaken to accept young Guianese workers on the site through partnerships with the adapted military service regiment (RMSA) in Guiana and with technical colleges in Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni.
