United States-based Case Construction Equipment has won Silver Level World Class Manufacturing (WCM) certification for its plant in Wichita, Kansas.

The company makes both skid steer and compact tracked loaders at the site, which covers 46,000 sq m (495,000 sq ft). The plant also houses research and development and employs 400 people.

WCM is one of industry’s highest standards for integrated manufacturing management. It is designed to eliminate production losses by identifying objectives such as zero injuries, defects, breakdowns and waste.

Audits take place for a range of WCM ‘pillars’ to give an overall score and produce the final rating.

Case said the latest results were due to improvements in areas such as professional maintenance, level of detail and motivation of operators.
