Cement producer Cemex is to supply 120,000m³ of ready-mixed concrete for the construction of the Reissek II hydroelectric power plant – a €385 million project in the Carinthian Mountains in southern Austria.

The 430MW pumped storage power plant is being developed by Austrian energy company Verbund, together with Kelag and Energie AG Upper Austria. It is scheduled for completion in 2014.

Cemex said a central challenge was the harsh weather conditions, which can reach -20oC in the winter. The company has provided is 24 hour-shift operation from a specially installed mobile ready-mixed plant located high on the mountain.
