Certex testing to 1,200 tonnes

25 July 2011

A new test bench installed in Denmark allows Certex customers to test lifting equipment to more than 1,000 tonnes.

The new bench is 20.5 metres long and offers 1,200 tonnes of pulling force on objects up to 15 m in diameter. It was installed in a purpose-built facility in the Port of Esbjerg by Peter Harbo A/S, a member of the Certex International group of lifting product distribution and service companies.

Items suitable for test in the DK 5 million (US$1 million) machine include wire rope, chain, hooks and blocks, lifting beams and brackets. New business opportunities will be opened up in offshore, wind power, shipping, marine and construction industries in Northern Europe.

Tests possible using the new equipment include a pull test up to 1,200 tonnes (direct line pull), a breaking test up to 960 tonnes (direct line pull), and a spreader beam test up to 500 tonnes (angle test).
